I think the titles a bit strong, he says he hasn't broken any laws, probably another grey area, don't get me wrong, I'm all in favour of sniffing these double standard, money grabbing gits out, but innocent until proven guilty eh ;)

i think someone should have a ruddy good look at the rules ,and remove all the loopholes and scams ,there seems to be an awful lot money being claimed by mp's and it needs better scrutiny imo.

I just wish more of our glorious 'whiter than white' leaders would observe the spirit of the law even if the letter of the law allows their excesses.....

Perhaps you would, perhaps you wouldn't, not all MP's are filing gross expenses forms and fiddling loop holes in the system, sadly though only the latter make the headlines, it would be nice to hear more about the ones who enter politics to serve the public rather than themselves.

You're right though, those filling their pockets have had it their way to long, they system does need overhauling, perhaps as was suggested on the radio earlier the second home allowance should be scrapped in favour of MP's using the soon to be vacant and unused Olympic village.

You've got to wonder if Labour are pretty close to being whiter than white now if this is the best that the ultra right wing Mail can come up with.

Sadly this isn't the 'best', it's just the latest in a very long list of examples dating right back to 1997.

Ah well, it looks like another nice enquiry is on the way.

How sad it is that, rather than setting the benchmarks for standards of behaviour by using their judgement, our politicians seem to require so much guidance in what's legal and even acceptable... Still he's stopped doing it now (due to falling interest rates apparently) so that's OK then......

Also, he has not been accused of being "on the take." This would suggest he was taking a bribe, which he clearly hasn't. He may not be using the expenses system, in the spirit to which they were intended, but he has not done anything illegal.

No, it was cash as well. Derek Conway is a name that springs to mind. I wonder if son found alternative employment, after daddy fleeced the system for two hundred and sixty thousand pounds.
