Dave saves the economy

Have you heard the latest plan from the CONservatives to save the economy? The massive savings proposals for familes? The get rich overnight scheme?

Freeze licence fee, says Dave

Quote:

Liberal Democrat culture spokesman Don Foster said: "It's a sad reflection of the Tory party that the best it has to offer taxpayers in the economic downturn is £3 off their licence fee.
Three pounds off your television licence fee. Well, I can buy that yacht, the villa and the Bentley now.

But to heck with the black and white viewers, it's only a pound off.

Don't take it out on HP though. He's only promising to freeze it for this year. That's as effective as reducing vat by 2p:)

Bit of an over-reaction there, Flyboy, imho - all he was saying was that in these times of purse-tightening, perhaps the BBC should do it's bit.

Can't see anything in the linked article about "saving the economy" - or was that a bit of theatrical hyperbole on your part? ;)

Hooray for Dave!

This is good, but only if these truly reflects the BBC's outgoings. I.E If the cost of production is increasing then freezing the licence fee would be a stupid idea. It would smack more of a populist stunt at the expense of the BBC as opposed to getting the BBC to act within the current economic climate.

Re: Dave saves the enconomy

I don't think the £3.00 saving is the real issue here. It's the principle that there are government / taxpayer funded organisations that we the public get no real control over or say in how much is being paid to them. Just like our Council Taxes, and other costs, why should everything be going up in price all the time? These organisations shouldn't be isolated from the general economy and difficulties in finding the pennies that many are.

But if you want the service, you have to pay for it. This forum is awash with accusations about content quality from the BBC and the CONservatives want to reduce it even further. But that is besides the point; Dave has a history for battles with the BBC. His time spent in his nepotistic job at Carlton TV showed that.

To paraphrase a friend of mine "he is a black and white politician in a high definition political world."

Yes, very clever move by Dave from PR.

Now tell us how a party with thirty years of free market ideology behind it
copes with the ruins of the world economy and the destruct-testing failure of most of its basic economic precepts.

Answer came there none...

Buy a standard HDTV, then set the colour to zero - that will do it.;)

You'd still need a colour TV licence doing that :p

so do you believe as flyboy does that black and white license holders are irrelevant .

Re: Dave saves the enconomy

I believe black and white licence holders are getting more than enough value for money as it is. I think the black and white licence should be abolished. It will be before long anyway, I reckon, post switchover.
