Comedy and Comedians

I was watching Benny Hill last night and i still think hes really funny.

Isnt it funny how comedy has changed tho, from Jokes that were innocent or just had some innuendo in them to now having to cause some sort of offence to whatever the subject of that joke maybe.

Along with clips of 2 men in bed which were totally innocent, this has to be one of the best and funniest clips ever.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFgdhZGLJrY

I favourite all time comedy actor has to be Bop Hope. Close is Danny Kaye. The new actors today just do not capture me like them pair used to. For the slapstick Laural and Hardy were ace as were Abbot and Costello.

Norman Wisdom, Abbot & Costello, Jerry Lewis and Laurel & Hardy were the best comedians I grew up with. Classics.

Caught a few episodes of Monty Python's Flying Circus. I really love the films, and now the TV series.

I'm not so sure comedy has changed all that much. While I don't like them, people still like Norman Wisdom, Laurel and Hardy (never even found them funny as a kid)

Yes, there are offensive comedians nowdays. I daresay there were then. Certainly whatever offensive comedians we have now are no worse than those who told mother-in-law jokes in the 60s, 70s and 80s. And, no, I am not criticising those comedians. Les Dawson told those kinds of jokes and was, IMO, one of the funniest comedians I have ever seen.

Admittedly I can't think of their names, but there are some comedians today that don't cause offence to the subjects of their jokes.

Ahh, Morcambe and Wise.. Surely one of (if not) the best comedy partnerships ever.

I don't think comedy is anywhere near as funny as it used to be, ok so it was more slapstick but I grew up on all the above plus a few of my personal faves; Dads Army, Steptoe & Son, Til Death do us Part, Tommy Cooper.

These days it takes someone really special to make me chuckle, but there's usually a level of satire involved ;)

.

Dara O'Brian is one. His jokes are never at the expense of a given group, usually at society as a whole or himself. Great comedian to see live!

My step brother tells me our mother dated Max Miller (the cheeky chappy) for a while a long long time ago.
