Eurosport EPG Accuracy (Lack of)

All,
Despite the best efforts of my V+ box faithfully recording Eurosport at the allocated time no Cyprus rally for me, what do I get ? Speed skating ! Twice.

I know the EPG content is not solely the responsibility of VM but this sort of problem does undermine the Digital TV experience. I thought PDC (Programme Delivery Control) was going to sort this out, after all this was based on Teletext. Live sport will always be a problem but surely the technology is out there............

Discuss.

This is a long-time problem with Eurosport. They seem to be completely unable to stick to their own schedule. Even if you check online TV guides they have the same schedule listed as the VM EPG.

Yeah, unfortunately it's a Eurosport problem because those b****rds think they're better than the competition. Either live with it or grab it elsewhere. *cough*RacingUnderground*cough*

I have an invite code if you need one. ;)

I had the same thing the other week when I recorded world superbikes. I ended up with rugby for 30 mins and then the recording ended with about 18 laps of the race still to go!!

Know the feeling! I've complained to them about the same subject, I.e. their inability to stick to their schedules. However if you want to give them some stick, here's a live E Mail address that you can use:

ukcomms@eurosport.com

The last time I wrote to them - was recently, when they failed to show a scheduled Winter sport event for snooker - which I (also) recorded on my v+. I confronted them with a captured image of their website showing the schedule and accused them of blatant lies to their viewers.

Unfortunately I didn't keep their response - otherwise I would have shown it here. Needless to say, they used the excuse of making sure that their viewers get to see the event right to the end - something they do quite a lot it seems. It's a good job that this isn't a subscription service, as I'd soon kick it into touch.

Anyway if spleen venting is what you're after - vent away.

I was hoping that the more technically informed, and industry insiders on this site would be able to explain how application of PDC systems would stop this happening!!

PDC, I don't think that is used any more.

If I remember correctly this was a coding signal (encoded with the teletext signal?) that VCRs could pick up when programmed using VideoPlus codes, if the programme started late then the video would wait.

It worked too, I used to have a VCR with it, and it was good, but I don't think it's used on any digital platform.

Thats the point of PDC it provides compensation for on the fly schedule changes. Shame that the content providers and distribution platforms cant seem to implement a Teletext protocol on modern digital distribution.

The link to the PDC website is worth reading. http://625.uk.com/pdc/

I was not going mad it actually did work.:)

You think the EPG is a problem. They also carry their programme guide on teletext, that's if you can find it. The page numbers never match the index and even when you find the right one getting later or earlier programmes on other pages is almost impossible. I've even tried their website, and 9 times out of 10 it's the same as the EPG.
