Cable Forum - VPN over SSH Access to Home LAN

Ok, here's the deal.....

I want to be able to connect back to my home LAN whilst I'm away with work (or from the office). I don't want to have a computer running 24/7 here, but I will eventually have a NAS up and running for file sharing/access. The NAS will also eventually have a small web presence, but that's another issue :erm:

Ideally I would like to be able to connect using VPN tunnelled through SSH for the additional security, but I'm not entirely sure how best to set that up.

I have two linksys routers: one provides the boudary firewall and ADSL modem for my Internet access as well as wireless capabilities, the other is upstairs and will be connected to the NAS and a printer. The upstairs router is an old WRT54G running DD-WRT.

I'm thinking that I'd like to forward the ssh/vpn traffic through the first router (probably on a high port) to a designated port on the second router, and have that second router act as the end-point for the encrypted tunnel. From there my laptop would get an IP on the home LAN, be able to access the network resources, and then be able to browse back out to the Internet.

I'm quite happy to go and buy any additional device I might need if the WRT54G isn't going to be sufficient, I'm going to have to get the NAS anyway so one more device won't hurt :)

Any thoughts/recommendations on how I can accomplish this? Remember, I don't want to have another computer running at home - the only things that will be running are the routers, a NAS, and a printer.
