Fifty squatters take over mansion

Quote:

One of the squatters, Miriam Green, said: "We live in a damp country and a lot of properties, especially really old beautiful stone buildings like this - when they're left like this with nobody living in them - become damp.

"Living in it keeps it warm - we are actually looking after the place - it's like having your own live-in security."
I might get some security like this.

There was a building in London, that was taken over by squatters, and as they ' hadnt broken in' that didn't break the law, and they know more of the law, then the police do.

Incorrect - they know the law, and so do the police, which is why they can do what they did.

In what way, shape or form did the police not "know the law"?

This guy squatted in a house in hampstead north london since 1984 he was eventually awarded ownership and made a £710,000 profit.:shocked:

Maybe the squatters have read his story.;)

I know they are an irritant to the law abiding but secretly I find myself very often on the side of squatters..I can't abide the way some perfectly good buildings are left unused and empty for years on end..particularly large mansions like this one..

And yes it's about to be converted (which incidentally I'm surprised at in these days of credit crunch) into £500,000 flats, hardly what anyone would call low rent housing however.:(

well the way I look at it the government will be letting this out to tenants if it stay empty so these squatters are just saving the time and money

Follow the law and get them kicked out.

This is not right.
I would send the heavies in to get them out.
Then the troops and me would be arrested for doing that, and they would still be there!

This is much more cost effective, because if the governmant took it a single family of 'non nationals' would most likely be given it at our expense.
