PS3 Internet Help? PLZ read?
 

hi im new here
ive been having trouble connecting my ps3 to the internet
i realize that i just have to connect an ethernet cable to my ps3 from my modem
but it does want to work
the light flashes behind the ps3 but it never finds the Ip nor internet
i tried to manually set it up
it did obtain the ip adress but sadly it didnt get online :(
my computer is connected to the modem via usb cable for it is having the same problem
when i connect the modem to my pc via ethernet cable, thier is no connection, even though it lights up
i am using Scientific Atlanta webSTAR 2000 series cable modem
PLz help?

i apoligize if this was too long or was put in the wrong place for i am new here

Connect one device to the modem, either the computer OR the ps3.
Turn off the modem, wait a few seconds then turn it back on.
This should be all you have to do.

Welcome to the forum.

Each time you plug a different device into the modem, you need to power off the modem, power off the PC/PS3, power on the modem, wait for the lights to settle down, then power on the PC or PS3.

i am sorry to say that this did not work
same results
i also tried this with my computer just to make sure and it also was inresponsive
the connection passes by to my internet via usb cable but not ethernet
why is that?

I've seen modems where usb has been used for so long that the ethernet port has died.

but im guessing that the port is not dead since the lights next to them are blinking

Can you connect using ethernet to your computer instead of usb?
If you can, what ip address do you get when you do this?

only with usb

If it's VM, give them a call and explain what's happening, they'll take you through a troubleshoot.

or i could get a router that takes usb and ethernet?

Are you in the UK? I've never heard of Optimum.
I'd call them.
