Re: Malcolm Wall quits Virgin Media
Or maybe as he heard his division may well be being sold he wanted to move on.
VM as a whole is going nowhere apart from possibly another cableco / private equity company at some point. |

NTL as it was did this before selling off its Broadcast Division and it's Republic of Ireland operation the cash from which went towards funding the merger with Telewest and buying Virgin Mobile thus forming the company in it's current form. The TV side of things came with Telewest, and was not an NTL business. NTL decided long ago 1999/2000 that they wouldn't go down the content road after they failed in acquiring premiership football rights. Virgin Media want to concentrate being a carrier of content not a provider of it. Quote:
The only limiting factor is their coverage, in the future they may well be bought out by another company or indeed they may buy another company. The same could be said of any other telco. In the past couple of years we've already seen Fibrenet, Yourcoms, Thus and Energis be gobbled up by Global Crossing and C&W. VM is a strong business, there are many options on where they might go from here. |

I was just pointing out that VM isn't going to be a 'sinking ship' any time soon though I do fully expect it to be acquired within the next 3 years, only reason it hasn't been already is credit issues. The company has a nice wodge of income tax losses to be taken advantage of by a potential suitor and is a good value purchase even factoring in assumed debt. On the other side of the coin be good to see this 'far better technology and network' more in evidence rather than doing 'BT + a bit'. And no I don't consider 50Mbit with less upload than ADSL2+ as evidence, especially as 40/15 is a year or so away from the inferior network :) |

Its the people that work there that makes the broadband 'come in' |

But if you define leading by the product, speed, and quality of network, then you have to say it's Virgin. Quote:
