20mb VIP - dreadful...
Not 30 minutes ago I had an engineer visit my lovely home and upgrade us to the Virgin Media VIP business package.
One new modem later, and one 20mb/1mb config on the modem later, it's crap. I have average of 50ms ping to anything, and the maximum download I have is 10mb, upload 512k. It's 9:16 in the morning, so I cannot believe it's utilization issues. Has anyone else had experiences like this? I was to believe the VIP package was vastly superior with utilisation issues due to the lowered connections per card on the UBR. |
Re: 20mb VIP - dreadful...
Just to be clear this is a business broadband connection ?

Re: 20mb VIP - dreadful...
Yup! I work from home, and the normal service was incredibly slow.
The engineer and sales person both told me that it would be 20mb/1mb, an upgrade from the 20mb/768kb on the normal tier. Modem: Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 20480000 Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 1024000 |
Re: 20mb VIP - dreadful...
When you perform a speed test what results do you get?
|
Re: 20mb VIP - dreadful...
Was 10mb/512k earlier.
Just did it now and: https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2009/03/76.pnghttps://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2009/03/77.png Got insane amounts of packet loss whilst doing the test too. |

Your advantages are static IP addresses if you want them, the slightly higher though still rubbish upload, and priority access to business level support. Performance wise business service offers nothing over residential in a congested area. |
Re: 20mb VIP - dreadful...
Hm, wasn't aware of that - I had thought that VIP/business users were on a slightly lower ratio. Still, this from a network at 10 am in the morning on a work day is slightly odd. I can't wait til all the young ones get home at 3pm and start hammering the network :(.

Don't think it's overutilisation unless there's been an issue that's pushed loads of modems onto a single upstream, might be an upstream fault. I'm sure the newsgroup guys will advise, failing that you have access to business support who are pretty good :) |
Re: 20mb VIP - dreadful...
Doh! Still, static IP and the support priority is worth it.
Kind of trying to put off calling, have an ulcer on my tonsil and don't want to do any talking, but it sounds like I'll have to take the plunge as the newsgroup is getting no traffic from the techs at this time. |
Re: 20mb VIP - dreadful...
hold on you are payinmg more money on business broadband ? then what the point of paying too much money if business and residental are sharing the same bandwidth. I would advise you to cancel it and go with normal residental one to pay less price. You just paying a waste of money threw away for no priority at all on the business.

Re: 20mb VIP - dreadful...
Called customer support, and they told me a tech would call back (still waiting). Very pilote, very quick - at least I can understand them and they understand me.
If I download, or upload, packets are dropped. I have 20Kb/s upload, whilst I can get between 200Kb/s to 3500Kb/s down. I have no idea why it's acting like it is, the config is set fine in the modem options. The only thing that was changed was the modem from a residential to a business. Since then I've not been able to touch the thing, and it's not been fixed. Oh how I wish there was a business NG, instead I'm left waiting for this tech to call... :( I was hoping someone from cf would have a magical fix for this, but alas, 'tis not to be! |
