Netgear GA311 NIC
I just purchased this to complete my 1GB LAN. But it is only connected at 100MB.
I have a Netgear GS605 (5-port Gigabit switch and 3x 1GB cables) My main computer, running Vista and onboard LAN is connected at 1GB, but my second machine which is: Asus M2N-MX SE Plus (AM2) AMD LE-1600 2.2GHz 1GB Kingston DDR2 Maxtor 80GB IDE HDD Netgear GA311 Windows XP Professional SP3 It is installed, but it's only connected at 100MB/s, and I can't figure out why. Help? |
Re: Netgear GA311 NIC
maybe a dodgy cat5e cable? Try another or get a cat6.
What sort of length is the cable run? |
Re: Netgear GA311 NIC
I am using brand new CAT6 cables, which all work at 1GBs according to 2 other computers. (I have tried all the new cables in the computers)
The cables are 2m in length. |
Re: Netgear GA311 NIC
Very strange. I used a batch of exactly the same cards recently to upgrade a client's workstations to gigabit. They all worked perfectly on cat5e, even a couple that are pushing the 100m limit.
Maybe you just have a 'duff' card. Have you tried forcing the speed settings rather than auto-negotiation? |
Re: Netgear GA311 NIC
I don't know how to force it.
I have been having hard drive issues, so I am backing up my data and putting in a new drive and installing XP fresh. I'll try the card again, and if it doesn't work, I'll take it back to the shop. |
