Linksys WRT54GS v 5.1 question
Think my loyal router may be on its last legs. Had it a 2 years now and the internet stops responding and I can not access the router. (i cant even get the username and password screen up). Every 10mins a reboot of the router is required (factory settings normally)
I have just installed the latest firmware and while it seems a little more stable, some websites just fail to load, which worked fine when connected directly to the SACM. just wondering if these are tell tale signs of a dieing router? I have just posted this, yet sky news and lloydstsb fail to load :| |
Re: Linksys WRT54GS v 5.1 question
Sounds a bit knackered to me. Can you consistently ping it, or does it go dropping pings too?
Odd though. I have a feeling Linksys kit might have a longer warranty than the usual 1 year, so might be worth checking that. |
Re: Linksys WRT54GS v 5.1 question
Nick f has been posting about which router to buy and I have been banging on unapologetically about the ndraft DLink 635 I bought last Oct. Reason I am posting reply here? It has an 11 year warranty.

Re: Linksys WRT54GS v 5.1 question
Hi,
I am having a similar problem with the same router v5.1 as you and it just blocking sites, I have to then reboot the router. I still can access the route admin and other sites. It not just blocking www but also ftp and other ports. However I can still ping and trace route the site |

Re: Linksys WRT54GS v 5.1 question
Have you tried the Easylink Advisor? When mine played up I downloaded this tool and it seemed to do the trick. I'm not sure now what it did but it got the router working.
You have to look for it on the site because it seems to hide as it's all Cisco stuff now but it is there. George. |

thanks all
i tried various suggestions, but had a v6 of the same router laying around, done a quick factory reset and it seems to be working fine. |

Ignore the event log as that is normal on a Virgin modem and mine is virtually identical. |

I tried loading my wireless card driver on and disabled my wired connection and while it connected to the router, it wouldnt get on the net - however.. I have now disabled my wireless, my 2 IEE1394 adaptors and my nForce wired adaptor. I have just enabled my marvell yukon adaptor and it seems to be ok atm.. so will see what happens. |
Re: Linksys WRT54GS v 5.1 question
Sorry, that sounds really confusing, having read that back.
You can see what I am having to disable below. My internet seems fine atm, so I will keep an eye out and just enable my adaptors as and when I need them. http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/765/network.jpg |
