DHCP Issue?
I have a desktop pc and a laptop, both running XP and both connecting wirelessly to my Linksys WRT54GS router. Both the laptop and desktop connect straight away to the router when I boot them up. The laptop will then get an internet connection immediately but invariably the desktop fails (IP address starts with 169). However, if I leave it, after a few minutes - usually 5 to 15 - suddenly the desktop acquires an IP address (starts with 192) and all is well.
I'ev tried rebooting the desktop, modem and router, renew and release, and other little things that I've picked up from this forum but I still haven't found a way of getting the desktop to get an IP address on startup. I'm assuming there's some screwup in my desktop networking config but I can't find it. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be delighted to hear them... |
Re: DHCP Issue?
You could always change the router/pc`s to static ip`s if DHCP is being a pain.

Re: DHCP Issue?
That was a depressingly easy solution. :dunce:
Thanks xpod, worked perfectly, normal service and sanity is now restored. ;) |
