laptop to tv cable needed
Hi there,
I have a new laptop with VGA and HDMI out but an old telly (CRT) with only 4-pin S video in and the red/yellow/white in (female sockets). There is also what looks like a headphone in socket. I have seen VGA to s-video connector which also has the red/yellow/white plugs, but they are female like the telly. Is there anyway I can connect? Please any help would be appreciated. |
Re: laptop to tv cable needed
:welcome: you should be able to get a vga to svideo cable.

Cableuniverse have an S-Video to S-Video male - male cable. You will also need something to carry the audio such as this.
Having said that, a laptop with HDMI probably has blu-ray and a decent LCD screen - you may get a better result watching on the laptop! |
Re: laptop to tv cable needed
husker, how big is the screen of the crt? thats also an issue as I used my mac mini on a CRT and it wasnt that great looking as the highest resolution you could go for was 800*600

Re: laptop to tv cable needed
THnaks for the replies. Just to recap - my TV has s-video but my laptop does not, so a s-video to s-video cable is no good.
My TV is pretty big, about 48 inches diagonally. |
Re: laptop to tv cable needed
bare in mind the VGA out has to support TV out function or it will not work. Most VGA devices do not. I wrongly used to believe it would just work but I was corrected now if the TV has componant input thats a different matter

VGA to S-video / composite adapter (you need to extend the S-video or composite cable a little :))
http://www.blueunplugged.com/p.aspx?p=121406 and for sound if you need it (or similar with length to suit your needs) http://www.blueunplugged.com/p.aspx?p=122450 |
Re: laptop to tv cable needed
iirc belkin do a kit that comet might still sell that has all the leads in it for connecting a pc or laptop to a tv via composite or scart or svideo and with the sound cable aswell.
