What we really need to know is what you hope to do with the lappy. Without that nobody can determine a reasonable spec.

Personally I'd always take a look at the Dell offerings.

Hi thanks it will be mainly for home internet use and playing on fairly hi spec games.
Thanks again

hmm, lappys and high spec games tend not to mix primarily due to the graphics capability. You'd also be concerned about screen size. A £400 budget will be a tall order to get something that can make you happy. Any particular games in mind?

On the other hand my Dell core duo based lappy with 15.4" screen is after 3 years still doing me very well for office use (internet, email, wordprocessing, web design, etc). If you can cut out the gaming expectation, £400 for a lappy will get to a good computer.

Any new laptops graphics will be up to the job of playing that game, even the lowest end intel chipset. I would lean more towards the mobile Radeon offerings though personally. I have a laptop with an integrated HD3650 and it plays all the games I want on high detail and though I don't play any FPS games currently I do play some modern RTS games which can actually be more demanding on the CPU and graphics.

The current AMD and Intel CPU offerings are very similar so it doesnt make a big difference which you go for though I do believe the Intels are currently more power efficient which may be of interest if you plan on running much on the battery.

Acer 7730. I got mine in the Jan sales for £390 now it's £ 430, but still good value. It has a crystal clear 17" display, good build quality and generally good feel to it. The only downer side from what you listed is the HDD size at 160GB
