how can I make an animated avatar, for free?

hello oh knowledgeable ones http://b6.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/0...93604136_m.gif please can someone tell me how I can make an animated avatar out of some photos I've got. I know shrinkpictures is free - are there any alternatives to this? And what is the next step?

GIMP is free and can make animations.

I just made this in about 5 minutes - It's very simple, but I've only had GIMP installed for about 10 minutes.

Sorry about that, I was just showing you GIMP can do it, although it's not that easy.

I highly recommend reading the manual first. If you're familiar with Photoshop then it's not that difficult, if not you could be struggling.

only managed to splice together some piccies so far, think I may need to put the gimp on the pc instead of wee thinkpad :erm:
