Wireless Hell!
Newbie here, with a problem!
Wireless has been running just fine for months, as it was this morning! It decided to die at lunchtime today, and I can't get it back!!! Nothing has changed/moved, all lights on my netgear router remain the same, I've reset everything, re-installed from virgins wireless set-up disk, and i still get the same message....'this connection has limited or no connectivity'. Wandered if it was my laptop, but here I am typing on it now, but using the cable from my desktop! Ive disabled and enabled the laptop wireless connection but nothing! Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated! Cheers |
Re: Wireless Hell!
Limited or no connectivity usually means - I can see the router, and I can say HI to it, but it keeps telling me to sod off.
Usually because of an incorrect WEP or WPA-PSK key. |
Re: Wireless Hell!
Is there an easy solution??

Re: Wireless Hell!
I sometimes have the same issue, though not a fix assigning a Static IP address to your Wireless card seems to work for me. Then after about 30 minutes change back to DHCP.
Might work. |
Re: Wireless Hell!
Well, if it was me getting that message, I'd be connecting to the router via the wired LAN, and going into the status page, to check the keys matched both on the router and the PC.
If they matched, I'd try rebooting the router, if no joy after that, I'd do a factory reset, and re-enter the key. Also, just make sure that you are actually connecting to YOUR wireless network. It is possible you were connected to a neighbours unsecured network, and they just secured it. |
Re: Wireless Hell!
Limited or no connectivity also means you are not being issued with a Dynamic IP Address, which is why your IP is something like 169.254.?.?
Try also resetting the DHCP Settings within the Router. |
Re: Wireless Hell!
169 yes!
So why is it working with the cable?? ARGH!!!!! |
Re: Wireless Hell!
Limited connection. Try this:
Start >> Run >> CMD Press enter Type in CMD ipconfig /release Press enter then type this ipconfig /renew |
Re: Wireless Hell!
Try turning off your encryption, can you connect now? Obviously re-apply it.

Re: Wireless Hell!
Tried the ip release and renew.....nothing! My cable ip addy is a 192.....the wireless remains 162. I'm afraid Im mostly a computer idiot, so I wouldnt know how to turn off my encryption. Thanks for all the advice! I recall my PC doing this last year...a system restore fixed it!

Re: Wireless Hell!
Doing a reset may have turned off the Wireless connection.

Re: Wireless Hell!
try altering the channel on the router you could be getting interference from someones new wireless router or even a video sending device or something like that
always try that first before messing with other setting that have worked fine up till the fault |
Re: Wireless Hell!
Remember DHCP leases from virgins dhcp servers take alot longer than getting one from a router.

Re: Wireless Hell!
What type of wireless adapter are you using?
If it is internal this will be of no use to you but if it is USB have you tried changing the socket that the adapter is installed in? Failing that you could try deleting the profile for your wireless network and joining it again from scratch, you will need your wireless key handy to join again. |
