There are some 0844 numbers than VM charge double the going rate. For example 0.5p/min numbers VM charge 1p/min and 1p/min numbers VM charge 2p/min. VM like to fleece their phone customers.

shame really, I would think it would be illegal for virgin to charge more for 0844 numbers.. Still they are a damn useful when required, if needed.

Re: cheap international calls

If you want to call cheap international with VM, you'll have to get one of the cheap Voips instead.

http://www.voipcheap.co.uk/en/index.html
90 freedays per topup, 300min per week of free calls

http://www.voipbuster.com/en/faq.html#23
With Voipbuster, you get 120 freedays per topup, but UK landline is not free

With Voip + freecall providers, you do need to shop around for the choice of free, and you will want to spend the credit eventually, as you have to keep topping up even if you only ever use the free destinations for the available time.

The official VM response to this question would be.

No

And to be fair...way more often than I care for I have come accross a customer who has used one of these altenate call plans via a third party provider and then been hit on the VM bill.

The only call plan that is guaranteed with VM is their own International Calling Plan @ £1.50 per month.
