VPN - Linkysys WRT54GS v 5.1

Has anyone successfully run this router with a VPN Connection?

It has to be something specific to this router, despite VPN being allowed in it's settings, a connection from the LAN side of this router to the remote VPN server is failing.

Connecting direct between the local computer to modem, with no router, works. Using another WRT54GS (much older version) works too (but I can't leave that here). Thus it is something with this v 5.1 router.

I'm trying to flash the firmware, but as I suspected the v5.1 won't accept an update.

Any ideas

According to http://www.bitsum.com/openwiking/owb...?WRT54G5%5FCFE

you should be able to flash DD-WRT onto your WRT54GS 5.1 (although there are warnings it is irreversible...).

There does appear to be some issues with some Linksys models on the stock firmware. I have DD-WRT on a WRT54G and regularly use a VPN connection with no problems.

You could try the latest offical firmware from the Linksys site if your not already.

I dont know if that would help you ?

It has the latest official Linksys firmware. It wouldn't accept any version of DD-WRT, including the micro generic which seemed to be the only one that might have been possible, using the standard firmware updating process of the router. I'll have to look at EssDee's link as that seems a bit different.
