Re: Router firewall

Should be.

The firewall sits between wireless and LAN, and also between WAN and LAN. I'm assuming it's connected to something the other side (phone line, cable modem, whatever).

Have a look at the other settings, there's normally one there specifically for the firewall.

If you tick the box that says 'Disable SPI Firewall' you will have turned the firewall off (SPI = Stateful Packet Inspection).

Until then it will (or at least should) continue to operate in the usual manner, keeping in mind the limitations of the firewall (it's probably checking inbound connection attempts only) and any configuration changes you have applied (for example any ports you may have opened/forwarded).

ok cheers! i have KASPERSKY INTERNET SECURITY as well i just wanted the router firewall as an extra layer of security.
its ok to run them both i assume?

Re: Router firewall

Yep, they should run fine together.

Kaspersky will protect the host that it's running on (providing both inbound and outbound filtering, if configured correctly), and the router will (or should) protect everything behind it from unsolicited connection attempts from the Internet.
