Cannot connect old xp pc to vista!
 

Right so im connecting my old xp machine through a wireless router to vista, configured everything on settings including same name so that its linked eg WORKGROUP, switched off firewall but the vista only sees the pc name but it will not connect, says something like after i diagnose it, vista can ping the machine but cannot locate the host or something similar.

can someone please advise how to get through this or give me a guide to start it up again new? all help appreciated :D

Can you ping both the name and IP?

wow sorry for the late reply, i just got a portable hard drive in the end, ill just return it in the end after I use it lol....feel so stupid, couldnt even connect two small devices togethers and people connect thousands of pcs together lol thanks anyways happy new year x x x

have you made sure that sharing is switched on the XP machine, thats an error I've made in the past.

other then that have you tried doing it from a run box and then type in \\"ip address"
