Re: EX-NTL CIO in 'cash for jobs' allegation
What has this got to do with Virgin Media?
According to this article http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/12/17/ntl_cio/ he quit NTL almost 4 years ago! So why not ex-<insert company name since NTL here>? |
Re: EX-NTL CIO in 'cash for jobs' allegation
"Starting life as a debt collector for BT, Mr Pavitt rose swiftly to become IT director for NTL" - why does that say anything about anyone or any company?
My first job, while at school in Norfolk, was picking fruit - my first full-time job was Telecomms (morse monkey) in the RAF, and now I'm an IT Director for an University - does that say it all for the University (30,000 students, 3,500 staff) I work at? btw, he was at CableTel |

I think there is a big difference when someone works their way from the bottom gaining useful experience on the way, but very often in companies that have started up or grown quickly it is often not the case. ntl had some very good people who were ex BT employees and some that had been in the cable TV industry for years, but they also had their fair share of 'technical' managers who were previously furniture salesmen, carpenters and brickies. My first job was cutting keys, then fitting 2 way radio equipment. I have no problem with people starting at the bottom, but I do have problems with companies that employ unsuitable people. And yes there are many in the company I work for, unfortunately the defence industry is like an ex-forces retirement home. |
