WRT54G Wireless Connection keeps dropping

Every so often, the Internet seems to stop working over the wireless. At first I thought it was something wrong with VM, but now it must be my router.

I have 2 laptops connecting wireless and 2 computers which are wired. When the Internet goes on the laptops, it is still fine on the computers.

The connection doesn't disconnect, it still says it is connected, just no websites or online games load, nor can I ping outside the house. Although I can connect to the router wireless while the Internet isn't working.

I have tried changing the signal channel, still get the same problem.

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Hmm..Do you know what version of the router you have? Should be displayed underneath. Fault sounds like what my old V7 used to do.

Have a check that you have the latest firmware for the router, and current drivers for your wireless computers.

Re: WRT45G Wireless Connection keeps dropping

It says it's version 1.1, and I have just upgraded the firmware to the one DD-WRT recommend for this router model on their supported hardware page. (VINTage firmware...I downloaded the 'standard' firmware instead of 'mini', 'mega', etc)

I can't even remember what firmware I had on it before I upgraded it this morning, but it was some form of DD-WRT, not the default that came with the router. What I don't understand is how it worked fine for months, without any change, then suddenly has problems.
