What router to purchase?? PLEASE HELP!!
 

This is a pretty simple question for most people but your help would be much appreciated.

Can anyone please recommend a decent router for broadband which comes through an ETHERNET cable. I.E. a router with an ethernet input port.

One that would be beneficial when playing Xbox Live is a must.
It does not need to be a wireless router.

Although as far as I'm aware most if not all routers come with 4 ethernet ports to connect devices to, such as computers, xboxes, ps3s.
You'll pay the same for wired or wireless, you can disable the wireless though.

A bit on the expensive side, but i've just bought a D-Link DIR-655 wireless N router and it's very good. It would do all you need a router to do and it works well with a Virgin cable modem. Try doing a google search for D-Link DIR-655 review.

The only down side i found with this router was the set up disk. I got half way through easy set up and the router couldn't find the internet on my cable modem. Anyway i just stopped the disk, went to manual set up and was up and running with plenty of speed and range in next to no time.

If you don't need wireless then there really is no point in paying for a "n" speed wireless router. A "g" speed will be more than adequate, but stick clear of any older "b" speeds as sometimes their wired ports won't support the faster broadbands speeds that are becoming available today i.e. they only have a 10 mbps port whereas you should be looking at 100.

You should however look at pricing. Wireless is more common, so oddly that can be cheaper. A good allround wired router would be the Linksys BEFSR41
