Boycott the charity muggers?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7747150.stm

I must admit I've had my suspicions about some of these people so this was an interesting read. Chuggers seem to mount periodic 'raids' on our high street and I get heartily fed up being confronted by a series of strangers armed with clipboards and permanent smiles who act as if they're a long lost relative or something.

I never subscribe to anybody or anything in the street or stations etc.

Kings Cross is the worst, there are bout 4 or 5 that constantly work the floor there.

It's a new one on me..My experience is that most canvassers are trying to do market research...and I always run away from them as a consequence because I don't have the time to waste..did it once and never again. ;)

The good ones spot something on you (shopping bag from a store such as Game/HMV, Arsenal logo, etc) and then try to kick up a conversation on that. Just never stop walking..

I don't acknowledge their existence any more, just carry on walking as if they weren't there.

I still feel rude if I do that so I always just say I'm too busy.

Some will intentially block your way...I've had a few do this to me so I stop, offer them the world then just put in some realy false details... They waste my time and I'll waste theirs...

Re: Boycott the charity muggers?

before you donate to any "charity" always check the accounts - they have to publish details of anyone earning more than £60k - most Charities have people at the top who earn a disgraceful feather their own nest wage. I've even seen a charity boss who will be caught by the new 45% tax rate!

I don't mind people who are good at what they do earning a lot of money providing the value they contribute justifies it. I do resent being hassled in the street by people who have far less interest in the charities they supposedly represent than they do the 'commission' they get paid.

Hilarious spoof here on how chuggers could raise even more money... :D

Apparently there is an association that regulates F2F fundraising. It's no wonder there's so many of them in Manchester city centre when you see the list of members:

Ran away from the last one.Aggressive little...He was from Greenpeace.

Oh and I've had one on the doorstep last week from VSO.He was determined too.

At least I could shut the door on him.

I'd rather donate direct to a charity e.g. to a volunteer tin shaker.

Look at the cost to the charity of using these chuggers:

I just keep moving, don't stop, move on at the same speed and say "busy". Don't respond to anything they say, they are good at trying to start a conversation to make you stop using whatever you have on you.
