How to secure an Azurewave NR 580 wireless router
Despite one or two rather gloomy posts on cable forum about the Azurewave NR 580 wireless router, I've managed to set it and get it working (and I'm no technical genius).
I bought the router and USB dongle kit for £50 from Maplin, mainly because it was reduced from £80 and because sales assistant assured me that it would do the job with Virgin Media broadband I've got Virgin Media broadband and a PC with Windows Vista I simply installed the NR 580 router and the NU221 dongle, shut down the PC, switched off the power to the VM modem and the NR 580, powered everything up again and, hey presto, it worked Now my problem is to make the wireless connection secure. At no stage of the setup was I asked for, or entered user name and password. Presumably anyone in my street could use my wireless network at the moment, until I manage to secure it. At this address http://192.168.0.1/ , the answer to securing the network probably lies, somewhere Does anyone have any ideas please? |
Re: How to secure an Azurewave NR 580 wireless router
1. Change the Admin Username and Password for the router
2. Change the SSID to something that doesn't identify the model of router, you, or your address 3. Find the wireless encryption options and select WPA2 PSK, enter as long a passphrase as you can remember (using upper case and lower case, numbers, and special characters !"£$%^&*() That should do for a start. |
