Virgin Media investors presentation
Shamelessly robbed from AV Forums, but they refuse to link to other people, so stuff 'em.
http://media.corporate-ir.net/media_...mber112008.pdf Check out page 11 - 'plan to add linear HD channels'. <edit>And page 26 - network expansion! |
Re: Virgin Media investors presentation
Two other things I found interesting
a) In the last 18 months, average data use has increased 80%. It would seem then that their 'fair use' threshold of limiting data rates after 'excess, abnormal' use should too increase to reflect that, no? b) They are positioning their 50meg service not so much at enthusiasts, although they want them too, but at the broader market of families. They are going to market it as a service that can be used by multiple people simultaneously while remaining fast. Of course it will remain fast until they cross the STM threshold after Lisa has been streaming something off IPlayer for an hour, while Johnny is playing XBox live and Dad browsing media rich websites. On the face of their investor presentation their STM policy is quickly going to become a blocker for some of their marketing aims. |
Re: Virgin Media investors presentation
I'm a little surprised that a document that confirms VM's intention to add linear HD channels and move towards IPTV hasn't generated more discussion. Oh well.

Re: Virgin Media investors presentation
There was discussion about the linear HD in other threads: plenty of it.

Re: Virgin Media investors presentation
My own favourite was page 41 - "Defending the cash cow" - interesting way to look at the telephone service.

If that's what it takes to get a service that isn't a complete joke, yes. |
