2 to 10 Mb Upgrade queries?
I've been thinking about upgrade my connection for a while (as, at last check, it was only an additional £7 a month to jump from 2Mb to 10MB which is a reasonable jump in speed).
If I rang up today (it's a Saturday) would they be able to put the upgrade into place (as I understood it, the upgrade is done remotely - so it's a case of ringing up, making the request and then waiting for a short while for the upgrade changes to be made) or can it only be done in a weekday? The modem I have appears to be a NTL Home 120 (it's silver). The downstream power level is currently at -1.41 dBmv, the downstream SNR is at 33.51 dB and the upstream power level is at 32.00 dBmv. Are there issues there which would cause problems with a 10MB connection? My 2MB connection is pretty solid (I get max speeds throughout the day). If this changes with the upgrade to 10MB is made (if 10MB's is never reached due to overcrowding on the UBR) can I drop to 2MB (or would I be stuck paying the extra for 10MB connection for 12 months)? Finally, what information do they need to put an upgrade into place? Is it just basics like account number and address or is more information needed? |

If you do it online you'll need your selfcare username and password. If you do it over the phone you'll need your account number and password.
It can be done anytime and usually takes an hour or two to come through. You'll most likely need to restart your modem for the upgrade to take affect. Don't believe if you are told "it can take upto 24/48 hours" that's rubbish, that usually means the person you've been speaking to has botched the upgrade. |
Re: 2 to 10 Mb Upgrade queries?
As far as I'm aware you are not tied into any new 12 month contract if you have just upgraded from 2Mb to 10Mb and paid the standard price difference, which would leave you free to downgrade afterwards if you wished to do so.
I think it's only different if you upgrade and get a special offer price for the 10Mb BB, which would then have a new 12 month contract attached to it. I think I'm right. But you may be better hearing it from the horse's mouth so to speak, if you want to make sure. |

Ask CS if you can trial it for a few months and see if theres any special offers...i did it with a 20mb for 3months @ same price as 10mb...but it wasnt very stable so went back to 10mb

Just pay the extra £7 thats fine no contract, just make them aware that you dont want a new contract plus you only have to keep the upgrade for min of 30 says so dont worry
