Virgin secures debt repayment delay

Virgin Media's lenders have agreed to allow the cable operator to defer some debt repayments until June 2012.

Last month, Virgin said it was in talks with its senior lenders about pushing some amortisation payments currently scheduled for 2010 and 2011 to 2012 in exchange for £70m in fees and up to £50m in increased margins so that it could have more time to completely refinance its debt.

Virgin will report its third quarter results on Thursday.

I would imagine so as more people will stay in and watch telly rather than go out as things deteriorate

Well you only have to go around poor areas with high unemployment and people on benefits..........

and count the sky dishes and see the plasma TVs to know that sky/cable TV is now considered an absolute neccessity and well worth spending the family allowance on.

Why are the many round your way, and that is why you think that way.

You see it all the time, on the TV, in the news.

For example, when they had the bad weather in Hull and Doncaster and many of them didn't have insurance and you'd see the hard luck story on the news... we can't afford insurance etc etc, yet in the background was a 50" plasma with sky+ box.....priorities.

it may not be politically correct to say but in my experiance (not sientific i know) in general the poorer the household the more channels they have with multiroom and fast broadband, it keeps me in a job though so no worries.

I just wanted a bit more clarification rather than the it looking like a sweeping statement, and yes we have all seen similar news items.;)

think about what you saying, any person will become unsane if they have nothing to do, wealthy people are more likely to afford things such as going out, holidays etc. Whilst poorer folk are more likely to rely on internet and tv for entertainment as its cheap if used heavily.

If I had a choice between staring at 4 walls all day and having insurance or at least having more choice of what to watch I know which I would choose. I also very much doubt all the houses you looked at are unemployed either most probably are employed, if every house in a council estate was unemployed then unemployment would be about a 3rd of the population.

ANTOINE you strike me as one of those people who think the world is black and white.

Do you think the following?

everyone who is unemployed is so out of choice.
everyone in a council estate with a sat dish is unemployed.
getting a job is enough to be out of poverty and to not need something to do outside work hours.

Get over your prejudice and judgement on things you clearly know nothing about.
