Extending Recordings
Yesterday I called Virgin to ask them ho to extend my TV recordings (I couldn't find it for some reason).
I have no idea what the guy an the phone thought my problem was but he seemed to want to send a signal to my box and get me to restart! I think I managed to convince him otherwise and he eventually talked me through the menu options (although he got it wrong and I managed to work it out for myself loosely based on what he was telling me!) Anyway, after extending the recording for 10 minutes after the program has finished, I was quite disappointed to find that the last 10 minutes of Top Gear didn't record last night. WHY???? With SKY+, there were a couple of programs that we missed the end of, but with Virgin the problem seems ten fold... Do I need to do anything else (like restarting the box) for the extended recordings to work? Fortunately we caught up with I-player, but there are some things that I couldn't - films recorded for the kids that we would have liked to keep - ruined by so much being lost.... Why is it so difficult? |
Re: Extending Recordings
Sorry never had this problem. Stupid question did it "save" the manual record. I always check that it has. Seem to remember at least once it went to auto with out any slack

Re: Extending Recordings
Sorry, I don't understand what you mean about saving the manual record?

Re: Extending Recordings
May be it would be worth checking that you are setting your manual recording correctly. The V+ manual, link to copy below, sets the procedure out on page 7 of 12.

Re: Extending Recordings
Were the recordings set before you changed the extend recordings configuration or are they series link that was made before you made the changes?

Re: Extending Recordings
If I remember right it is in the V+ settings page you can add a early start and late finish to all recordings. I think it only works for new recordings so existing series links will not be affected. You will have to delete the series and then add it back in.
It will also effect the ability to recording multiple programs at the same time 1: BBC1 9pm - 10pm 2: ITV3 9pm - 10pm 3: CH5 10pm - 11pm 1 and 2 will record OK number 3 would not record if you have set the V+ box to record with a late finish i.e 1 + 2 will actually record to 10:01 for example so recording 3 will fail as it will clash. Re: Extending Recordings
Probably a series link made before the changes. The wife set it up so not sure when it was done. Still, I would expect the changes to be across the board...

Re: Extending Recordings
I'll do that - but only for recordings I know to be effected :) I don't want to have to go through everything :)
