Using Billion router as a bridge

hi, I need to use my billion router as a wireless access point and wondered if someone can help me. Before introducing the router, my pc was wired to my virgin modem by ethernet, then my mac shared the connection via a second ethernet card in the pc. I used apps on the pc via the mac by using remote desktop which worked fine. Now I need to work from another room so I dug out my old billion adsl router. so basically the router needs to replace the cable that ran from mac to nic2 on the PC. Incidentally, this works ok if I hard wire into the second lan port on the router but if i disconnect the cable, i dont get internet through wireless, although i can see the router. I don't know much about networking but someone told me I need to use the router as a bridge? Does anyone know what i need to change? Or should this work and i've just got the boot sequence wrong? Thanks guys

:welcome: to the forum. So we can help you more easily, could you tell us the model number of the router? Billion seem to have a large range, some of which may not be cable compatible.

Thanks for getting back to me. I was checking visible IP addresses from a command prompt (ifconfig)to try and see what was happening. I didn't make any changes but after disabling and enabling my airport card I got served an IP address and google appeared. Its all working now so guess it may have been a temp problem with my airport card, although it was connecting to the router. thanks again.

Re: Using Billion router as a bridge

I've managed to get this working but now seem to have a problem with delays in transferring data, maybe dropouts of some sort. The router is a 7404VGP and i'm getting an egg timer for about a minute when navigating to directories on a external hard drive connected to my pc. My itunes library is also on this drive and playback of tracks stops for about 20 seconds every now and then almost like it is re-establishing a connection. My airport is always at full signal but could there be another reason for the delays? Its as though the router is failing and reconnecting but I'm not sure where I can find logs to check this. Any ideas? thanks.

EDIT: Sometimes, i'll be using a lot through wireless, like remote desktop to my PC as well as playing an mp3 and navigating through folders. Would the bandwidth of the wireless be a restriction here or will it handle this sort of data transfer?
