Free Wireless Router?

Hey, I was wondering if any of you guys could help me out, Ive recently brought a new laptop and need a wireless router, Im on the XL broadband package with Virgin Media and understand I have to pay £40 to buy one off them. I dont think that this is fair as new customers taking the XL BB package get one for free and was told that sky customers can also request one for free, is there any way to avoid this £40 charge? Any help would be grateful:)

Ring em up, ask whether the "free router on L and XL broadband" offer applies to new and existing customers, if the answer's "new" customers only, mention that you've received a better offer from Sky and are considering switching. That usually gets the tickers rolling, so with luck they *should* offer you a free router.

EDIT: T&Cs for XL Broadband can be found here: http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html...l_size_xl.html

If you have already completed your first 12 months of the initial contract and sign up for a further 12 months, they'll probably agree.

Re: Free Wireless Router?

my advice is to buy ur own, the Virgin Media routers are nothing but trouble.

Ive had two off them and kept dropping out everytime i used FTP, Peer to Peer or doing large downloads and if u look on their newsgroup and perform searches on the net its a known issue.

The problem is their own firmware which u cant flash to netgears own.

lol. Hardcoded?

Code:

function assist_VM
if (user_downloads > 512kbit/sec) do
    call drop_connection_randomly(func)
else
    Run_generally_slowly(func)
endfunc

I have had my D-Link 524 up since August 2007 without any problems whatsoever.

Call Virgin and tell them that you are an existing customer and that you've noticed that new customers are able to get a free router when they take the 10Mb & 20Mb packages, they should give you it, as that was my experience this morning, I rang up, negotiated £29P/M off the bill, and I said about the router, they mentioned the price but said they'd throw that in for free.
