Vista - TCP/IP stack repair

The equivalent of the old winsock repair in XP.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

How often would somebody need to run that, say what scenario would their network stack become corrupted?

Malware can mess with Tcp/ip, as can so called optimisers. I had to reset it on an older XP machine, because of being a little over zealous with a few tweaks. :erm: Resetting it cured the problem. I'd hazard a guess and say, it's probably the last thing people think of, when trying to repair a dodgy connection. It's one of the first things I do now.
