Firefox users gain location tool

Well if Mozilla do not allow this to be FULLY turned off they will lose me as a user.

They have said this

Users will have control over how much location information they give.

It's so-called Loki system can determine location within seconds with an accuracy of about 10 to 20 metres.
But as i have stated above it better be a full switch off ability or that will be me never using them again.

As it is based on version 3.1 couldn't you just go back down to version 3 and still be OK using Firefox without fear of tracking?

The BBC article doesn't leave me with any 'fears' about being tracked. The whole thing sounds very controllable. I can't believe Mozilla would gamble their entire reputation on anything that could be considered spyware.

I am sure they will give users the option not to use it. And anyway i would just not install it in the first place.

I don't think I'd bother installing it either - if it snifs out nearby wireless networks in order to work out where you are, it'll not get very far with me. I have the only wireless network for miles and it's not likely to be on anyone's database.

I think it's a bit of a non-issue. Even in the unlikely event that Mozilla didn't officially allow the feature to be fully disabled, it's open source, so you can bet that someone would create a patch, add-on or whatever, before the final version is released.
