Slow speeds

Hello,

I'm on the 10MB service, ever since yesterday night my download speeds have been terrible, it's been like it throughout today too. I'm getting less than 2MB download speeds and a lot of drop-outs.

I've heard people complain about speed drops but only during busy times, I'm pretty sure I live in a low subscribed area as not many people can get cable around here plus I always get excellent pings.

I live the the S7 area of South Yorkshire, I've been getting speeds like this for the past few days:

Here are my line stats:
Quote:

Upstream Channel
The data shown in the table below provides information about the signal being transmitted to the network from your cable modem.

Upstream Status

Upstream Frequency
18800000 Hz

Few days before hand I was getting 1.2mb/s download speeds.

Anyone else experiencing slow speeds in the South Yorkshire area?

Re: Slow speeds

You need to call up Tech Support and see about getting that modem replaced as with those old DPX100 the frequency tends to drift, yours is presently 331250000 Hz it should be 331000000 Hz and even if reset it may not change or if it does it will revert back eventually.

This will be the prime cause of any issues you are having.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tech Support is open 24/7 on the numbers below.

For help with your TV or Phone and for Broadband Technical Support:

Call Product Support/Faults on 151 option 3 from your Virgin Media Phone. It's absolutely free.

Or call 0845 454 1111 from any other phone line.

Re: Slow speeds

Just rang VM support up, they told me it was a fault in my area, they checked my modem but apparently everything was fine.

They just gave me a Reference number, and told me to ring back and quote it if things persist.

Re: Slow speeds

IIRC there's a congestion problem in S7, however they apparently didn't check your modem too well - congestion doesn't make it disconnect but being off frequency will.

Another excellent service from VM support. :(

I do live in the S7 area, as for congestion I'm not too sure.. even at 1am yesterday I was getting bad speeds.

Been trying to download this game off steam for the past 2 days now, when I leave it overnight I come back in the morning to find my internet has disconnected.

Just have to be patient I suppose.

Ring up tomorrow and speak to someone again as that frequency will be causing connection issues and they should swap out your modem.

A Frequency fix for Scientific Atlanta DPX100 modems

Click the link and you will get a popup telling you " set successfully"
Close the message box and your modem will reboot and lock on to the correct frequency, this should help until your new modem turns up.

Did the frequency change if so just tell them you have to keep resetting it once a day to get your connection back up to speed.

Yes, the following changed:

Downstream Frequency from 331250000 Hz to 339000000 Hz
Upstream Frequency from 18800000 Hz to 29200000 Hz

The Downstream has changed to the stronger signal in your area and is fine, the Upstream actually ranges up and down, so do not take any notice of frequency changes there.

My downstream frequency is only 330750000 Hz and upstream is 46200000 Hz on a 10meg connection. Downstream power level 0.6 upstream power level 45.0dbmv.

What modem do you have as the downstream frequency is incorrect on 330750000 Hz and will be causing you issues with your connection.
