Radio demo software

I'm looking for suggestions for any programmes (preferably free!) I can use to record my demo. After a 3 year absence I'm going back in to radio and I'm just looking for something I can use where I can fade my own voice in and over music, as well as being able to fade the tracks in and out.

To start with I'm just going to use a cheap mic plugged in to my machine. I found this and was wondering if anyone has used it or can suggest anything better.

Thanks, Audacity is great and I already have it. Wasn't aware I could fade tracks in and out with it. I'll have to have a play around with it....
