Re: router problems

Yes i do. The light stays red on the adaptor and microsoft told me this is easy to fix but i must find out the wireless name and wireless key for the router before they can help me? I have no idea what they mean and the lady on the phone could not explain as her english was not very good so she told me to contact the maker of the router. I eventually found an address (no telephone number) and it is in china.
Thanks for replying.

Re: router problems

Hi Sue,

Do you know how to access the routers settings/menu from your web browser?

If not then try this. its the default router IP Address. Open your browser and type in http://192.168.1.1 this will ask you for the admin username and password. if you not changed it then both will be "admin" all in lowercase (I suggest you change this password to something else if you have not done so already. You should see a "Wireless" button on the left hand side. click on it. then click on Wireless settings. then take note of the SSID which Microsoft call the wireless name. If you have any wireless security which I advise you do then take note of the security type and the keys.

If you need help setting it up without phoning MS just send me a message. I do have an Xbox 360 so I can sort of help you out. If you bought the xbox 360 with the wireless controls (i.e not the arcade version) I think you can still get a months free xbox gold live. If you want to play games against other people then you will need xbox live gold and if you dont want to play against other people you can still access free demos and some free content as well with the xbox live silver.

Hope this helps u.

Re: router problems

Hi Sue.

I had the same problems with setting up my X-Box 360 for wireless, but it is pretty easy once you know how :)
Get a blank pen/flash drive and plug it in any USB socket on your PC.
Then click on start, then my network places, then 'set up a wireless network for a home or small office'.
Then click 'next'. You should see two options.
The one you want is the 'add computers or devices to the '????????' network.
The question marks meaning it should have your network name there.
Then click next and save to your flash drive.
Then put the pen/flash drive in the USB socket on the XBox 360, switch on and navigate to the far right to the 'system' page and click on network settings and then finally 'windows connect now'.
This should transfer the SSID, encryption etc from your pen/flash drive and you should be connected :)

Hope this works for you :)

Sue

The wireless name and key are sometimes on a sticker on the bottom of the router.

Re: router problems

right using the instructions kpanchev has posted, your router IP is 192.168.1.1 so write that in your web browser and the username and password is 'admin' in lowercase.

Go in there and find out your network key and your SSID

Re: router problems

Thanks everyone for replying.
My internet is down at the moment but i have someone coming to the house tonight to try and fix it (not sure if it is the computer or something i have done??)
I tried the advice chuckster gave but the x box still could not pick up the signal although it was in the same room.
As soon as my computer is up and running i will follow the other advice people have been kind enough to give me.
It is my son's birthday on saturday so i really hope i can sort it by then.
Thanks again
Sue
