Virgin Media cable signal strength

Hi all,

I just ran the signal strength check and this is the output:

Cable Modem Downstream
Downstream Lock : Locked
Downstream Channel Id : 6
Downstream Frequency : 586750000 Hz
Downstream Modulation : QAM64
Downstream Symbol Rate : 6952 Ksym/sec
Downstream Interleave Depth : taps12Increment17
Downstream Receive Power Level : -9.8 dBmV
Downstream SNR : 30.1 dB

Is this a concern? I live in W10.

downstream looks ok if your ex-telewest should be between -12/+12

Ex NTL, i dont think they use QAM64 on telewest, plus the frequencies are wrong for telewest. For ex ntl, the borderlines are (i think) -/- 6dmv.

Re: Virgin Media cable signal strength

In that case you need to call Broadband techincal support

151 and opt 3 from a Virgin Media LandLine

Yes definitely NTL and his power level is a bit on the low side so you are right about calling Tech Support.

All Telewest connections use the frequencies below.

331000000 or 339000000 for easy reference.;)

Re: Virgin Media cable signal strength

Hi,

I'm with Virgin Media, ex-Telewest. The good news is that I've recently been upgraded from 4MB to 10MB (I'm in S11 area), and using speedtest.net I'm getting 9.8MB.

The bad news is that I'm occasionally losing connectivity completely, or getting poor connectivity. What are the ideal, and the acceptable, signal levels for ex-Telewest?

My figures:
Downstream Frequency : 339000000 Hz
Downstream Receive Power Level : -5 dBmV (but sometimes -8 or -9dBmV)
Downstream SNR : 35 dB
Upstream Transmit Power Level: 39 dBmV

Are these within the ideal, or at least acceptable ranges?

Thanks for any help!

Those power levels and SNR are well within acceptable ranges.

What modem do you have as you are now on 10MB.

You really should see about getting that modem swapped by either calling Tech Support or through the Newsgroups.
