laptop monitor issue.....please help

Hi all, I currently have a Packard Bell easynote laptop, everything is fine other than the fact that when I switched it on this morning, the LCD screen is very very dark. The screen is showing a very faint image, almost like a ghostly outline.

Its not a brightness or setup problem, but I cant think what it could be, I have connected an external display to the VGA output and that is working fine.

The night before this all occured, I did perform the latest Windows Vista update, but I dont know if this could have caused the problem. OR could it be that the LCD backlight has died?

Any help would be very much appreciated
Thanks.

To me it does sound like the backlight has died. The panel itself seems to be working because you can see an image

Doubtful if it's the light itself but most probably the DC/DC high voltage converter board (located inside the screen surround) that powers the light

BUT very rarely it can be caused by the OS's or BIOS power management.

I take it you've tried going into the bios (if the bios shows then the hardware is OK) also the brightness controll (usually the FN key and one other)

Thanks all, looks like I shall be speaking to Packard Bell then, unless anyone knows a good place to have it repaired in the Bedfordshire area?

/me hides in her little house in Barton-Le-Clay ;)

I've not got the service equipment anymore otherwise I'd happily have a look especially as I used to be a component level repair tech...
