Laptop Help?

Hi guys and girls :)

I'm looking for a laptop just for surfing the net, burning dvd's, putting songs on to my sony things of that nature.

I have £300/350 and was looking at This But a friend said that's pretty poor spec and i should be looking for a intel core 2 duo with 2.2ghz and a separate graphics card.

I don't really have a clue :D

That laptop you have linked to will do everything you want it to with little or no performance difference to how it would perform if you had a separate graphics card. And I really dont think you need the extra cpu power either.
If you plan to add gaming to that list (even older games such as the sims2) that graphics card wont cut it and you could do with dedicated graphics, however I still dont think the higher speed cpu would be necessary though it would increase performance it would be way over your budget.

Although personally I would go for something with at least a 15.4" display or even 17" if you dont mind the extra weight on your lap, just my personal preference.

The seperate graphics card is only relevant if you want to play games on it...

Novatech do an entry level laptop with dual core and a larger screen (14 inch is way to low) for sub £300 without an OS.... and most other online retailers should have something similar with or without an OS

They do the same model with a 15.1" for just a bit extra & i won't ever be gaming on it as i do all that on my PS3 & 360.

Cheers for the reply guys

Its a good price for what you get, has double the hard drive capacity, 1GB more RAM, and the larger screen, seems to be better in every way you need.

I've been looking at this from Currys. I think it might suit you.

I know this will open up a can of worms but i'd checkout what Dell has to off.

Was going to suggest Dell myself but I had a look first and everything in the OPs budget is single core or older dual core, less RAM than the Acer and smaller hard drive etc. Though there is one inspiron 1525 that fits the bill it is almost identical to the acer in specification and price so I didn't bother mentioning.

That is unless the OP has use for a sub notebook, such as the Dell mini 9.

Just been to get it and told they don't do it now wtf?

Tesco have it with 2GHz Processor but 1 gig less RAM for £380 but no idea what they are like to order off?

I love the look of the Acer so really want that one. :(

My 2pence worth:

Don't buy a Acer
Don't buy an Advent
Don't buy from Currys, Dixons, PC World (DSG Group)

Do go to a specilist retailer - example: Novatech
If buying a laptop / PC with Vitsa - make sure you get 2GB or more RAM - 1GB dosn't cut it.

I've seen many fall apart / break just by breathing on them...
Seriously - I used to install them in school / colleges and by the next week they would be broken with little use - and no they were not abused in any way (the laptops / desktop that is).
