People constantly recommend the Linksys WRT54g around here. I have the ADSL modem/router version of the Linksys (because I don't have cable ... I'm on Virgin.net) and it is superb, very stable, good wireless range and it's a compact unit.

Those with an interest in hacking their hardware also like the Linksys because you can replace its own internal programming with other stuff you can get off the internet. Lots of techy fun and games, if you're into that sort of thing.

Sounds good. So is something like this any good? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OEM-LINKSYS-WR...d=p3286.c0.m14

I wouldn't go for this, you'd be better buying original linksys wrt54GL router, L stands for linux, completely open source firmware, upgradeable with dd-wrt or tomato firmware.

Dunno, I'm no expert, but it looks like they're selling that one with different firmware preloaded. I'd just get a standard one in its original Linksys packaging from PCWorld or somewhere, and not bother hacking the firmware unless you really want to, and know what you're doing.
