Re-formatting - What to do about Virgin Media modem?
Hello
I am planning to reformat my PC. I will then need to set up the VM cable connection (I have the ntl: 250 modem). Could somebody advise me what needs to be done? What software I need (where can I get it)? What information will I be asked for (PIN numbers or passwords)? I don;t remember very well what the engineer had done at the time. Many thanks. |
Re: Re-formatting - What to do about Virgin Media modem?
You do not need any software for the modem if you are connecting via ethernet, nor do you need any username or password to get back online
Once you have completed the reinstall, make sure both the modem and PC are off. Plug the modem into the PC and switch the modem on. When the Sync, Ready and Power lights are on and steady, switch the PC on. You should now be online |
Re: Re-formatting - What to do about Virgin Media modem?
Thanks for this. I do connect via Ethernet.
When checking the "Add/Remove Programs" there are two entries which, I believe, relate to the VM cable connection: - Broadband Help, and - Broadjump Client Foundation Any idea what these are and whether I need to have them back after the re-formatting? Thank you. |

Forget them, your PC is better without them.

Thanks, Jon
Your very quick replies are much appreciated! ---------- Post added at 12:43 ---------- Previous post was at 12:12 ---------- Forgot to mention a detail: the model is linked to a wireless router. Apart from reinstalling the router software and setting it up, will all else be OK? |
Re: Re-formatting - What to do about Virgin Media modem?
You PROBABLY dont need any software for the router to work at all

Re: Re-formatting - What to do about Virgin Media modem?
Just ensure your net cable is plugged in & don't reset the router. Reformat & load your new operating system, it will find & configure the connection.
If it doesn't, then you will need the driver disk you got with the motherboard. Load them & as soon as the operating system has finished. It will load the net driver, + VGA & sound if needed, you will then be able to connect to the internet. Dont forget to enable your firewall first, & load your anti virus prog. |

You may need to make the wireless router SSID visable temporary until you've finshed
