Router Help.

Hi,

I moved 3 months ago to my new home and took my ISP (Virgin) with me.

All worked well with my new connection until I fitted a new net-lynx router, my partner and I are now experiencing random disconnects every few hours or so that last for 2 - 5 seconds maximum and then we are reconnected.

This happens simultaneously on both P.C's on the network.

Although it does not seem a problem (few second disconnects every number of hours) it is when we are doing something online that requires a solid connection to be maintained.

Further questions welcome.

Please Help! :)

Firstly I'd recommend changing the channel used for the wireless.
It could be there's interference.

Oh sorry.

I forgot to mention that we are not using the wireless function, just two computers and a broadband modem into a router on RJ45's.

Is the firmware on the router current?

What disconnects, the router or the modem?

What is your connection (cable) speed and what model is the router. It could be that the router WAN side can't cope with the speed.

are the router and modem getting enough ventilation? They're not tucked away in a cupboard or stacked on top of each other are they?

Re: Router Help.

Hi again,

Sorry for the delay in my reply - I have been busy.

the connection is 10mb and the router doesnt actually have a model written on the box or the router itself, it just reads "net-lynx wireless broadband router" it then goes on to list the tech specs:

IEEE 802.11g / 54Mbps / 2.4GHz
Backward compatible with IEEE802.11b
Supports 64/128-bit WEP / WPA / WPA2 / IEEE 802.1x
Supports WDS mode

I'm not sure if there is firmware on the router currently, I did not receive a CD with the package so assume not. I considered flashing some firmware on myself but couldnt find a net-lynx router named as a supported router in any of the mainstream firmwares (DD-WRT, Tomato) so didnt want to risk it.

It is the router that disconnects and the disconnects only began when I fitted the router into the network.

I believe ventilation to be sufficiant, although it is kind of under my desk it is on the edge on a box on a platform and there is nothing near it.

Thanks for all your help and interest so far. :)
