Printer/file sharing with Virgin Wireless Broadband Router
Hi, I've just set up the Virgin Media Wireless Broadband Router (Netgear) Works on both my Vista PC in lounge and XP PC in the bedroom allowing me connection to the internet using either. Is it possible to connect this router in such a way as it to allow the PC in the bedroom to print/share files music etc ( via the printer attached to the PC in the lounge). Is a real pain having to use usb keys all the time to move files from one PC to the other. If so does anyone have guidance on how to do it for a newby.
Any advice would be appreciated. |
Re: Printer/file sharing with Virgin Wireless Broadband Router
Yes it is easy-ish!
Set up the printer where u want it (in the lounge?) then goto start Menu > Printers & Faxes, right-click your printer, select sharing, then click the radio button that says "share printer" Then on your other computer browse to \\your-pc-name and then you should see it, right click on it and select Connect... jobs a goodun :) |

If the 2 PCs are running a different O/S you may need to download a driver on the other PC for the printer specific to that version of Windows

Re: Printer/file sharing with Virgin Wireless Broadband Router
Thanks for your responses Just because I'm thick here the connection can be done through the netgear wireless router when both machines connect toi it wirelessly no network cable is required between the main PC and the router?
I know it seems a stupid question but networks are not something I've had any dealings with and the only instructions that comewith it are on how to connect to the broadband. Thanks |
