Low CM signal level

According to the old post up there I am getting the feeling that a Downstream Receive Power Level fluctuating between 0.3 and 0.6 dBmV is awfully low and needs to be rectified. (SNR appears fine at 41.9 dB as does upstream transmit at 54.5 dBmV). The line usually works fine 24/7 but i have had the occasional day where its dropped all connections for 5 or 10 seconds with no apparent reason and no maintenance listed in the outage calendar.

My question is can that be done remotely without having to lose connection, reboot the modem or have any interruption to the service at all? Even for a few seconds? Or can i expect everything to drop while its fixed if I phone to report that?

Thanks

Those levels looks fine, watch the upstream doesnt go much higher that that though.

Downstream receive power is fine whichever network you are in, 0 should be more than workable and SNR is fine.

Concern is your upstream transmit power which is pretty marginal and very close to the edge, however a disconnect due to signal issues is likely to last longer than 10 seconds.

Are you able to get to the logs of the modem in question?

Call 151 from your Virgin Media telephone. You need a tech. ;)

Hi, thanks all, im xNTL langley, in logs last night there WAS just an entry from 3 days ago: DHCP Renew warning- Field Invalid in response. Looking now that DHCP warning has been updated with todays date. The next entry before that was end of July.

However I had an out yesterday afternoon, not today, and an out the night before, with no log entries to match the times. I have seen it on my meters, it just loses it for about 6 to 10 seconds and its back (but its annoying as thats enough to knock off all my systems). Ive also seen it doing little micro outages on the occasional day for a second or two but thats not enough to cause a problem.

So could a 56 to 58 upstream cause that? Or can I just put it down to general problems at the UBR?

My main worry is whether calling to get it rectified will mean I have to go offline or not?? Or can it just be tweaked remotely without affecting whats running?

(ok ive just learned how zero dBmV is ok, i was thinking it was an absolute value but actually its not and zero is fine)

If the u/s power is hitting 58 that could cause that yes - you will need a tech for that, check the levels when the connection drops.

Langley (NTL area) Downstream power levels -2.5dB to +2.5 (QAM 64) -1.5 to +2.5 (QAM256)
