Another network problem...
 

Hi guys

Having this problem with my wifi (again), in that the internet will randomly dissapear for a couple of minutes, but the wireless wont drop, it stays connected with IP address and DNS but no internet. this has been happening since yesterday.

Do you lose any lights on the modem?
Can you still access the router config page?
Can you access the modem config page - 192.168.100.1 - username root password root ?
Can you ping the router, modem, bbc etc?
Which modem do you have?

Im not sure if i lose any lights on the modem, my pc is 2 floors up from it, ill have a look next time it happens. I can intermittently access the modem page, firefox says "waiting for 192.168.100.1" for along time. The modem is an Ambit 200.

Ping to modem:

Do you or a friend own a laptop that you can connect direct to the modem to see if the problem still occurs, because if you call Tech Support they will ask you to do this as they only support the connection from the modem.

If it still happens when connected as above then the fault is with the connection not your router.

I can connect the other pc downstairs direct to the modem, but will have to wait some time, it tends to happen every hour or so.

I would advise you to connect direct to the pc downstairs and wait for the fault to happen and ring Tech Support then leaving the pc as it is so they can see the problem.

Tech Support are open 24/7 on 151 option 3

Oh yeah by looking at the modem logs, "Link down ethernet interface" is the most recent event, happened today at 18.44. If thats any use to you.

As I said above call in when the fault occurs and do not touch the pc or modem.

This below is a something I have copied and pasted on many occasions to people asking similar problems.

Be careful of reading modem logs, because what happens when you reboot your modem is that every single update for that modem is received at the same time giving you those worrying logs.

My modem is a Motorola and if I look in my logs I will find some with the Date stamp of 1970 and we did not have broadband then.

got a spare ethernet cable you could swap for the current one connecting the modem to the router?

either the ethernet port is faulty on the modem, the ethernet cable is faulty/loose or the router's wan port is faulty

Ive put a new ethernet cable in, see if that cures anything. I hope the routers WAN port isnt at fault, shouldn't be as it is almost brand new.

Oh I did the same mistake as that, as mentioned in another post with a faulty brand new cable.

Its just happened again :sleep:.

It appears its only me though, my mum is on the laptop browsing the web fine, whilst mine goes AWOL...though i did notice Windows popped up saying my network was unsecured, when it is.. :confused:
