Virgin Media Announces Price Increases

Today Virgin media have written to customers advising of price increases accross all (cable only? unconfirmed) packages.

The cost of XL is going up by £2.50 although the price increase is different depending on the package you use. I dont have the other price increase details but if anyone else has the letter please add to this post.

Virgin media are unable to provide any specific reason for the price increase but recommend off setting the cost by £1 by signing up for paperless billing, i already use this. Free broadband Technical support is also being highlighted and BBCi Player is now also on demand. They also highlight that Setanta Sports will be free for all customers between 8th - 11th August.

in my case i already get setanta sports free, XL package, and i dont use technical support so im due for a price increase for no obvious reason.

Just what we all need a price increase to go with the gas, fuel, food and other increases just now!!

A source in VM claimed that VM XL customers will be upgraded to 50Mb's at some point in the future but was unable to be drawn on when.

That will never happen as 50mb will be a "Cash Cow" you want it you pay for it.

yep its nothing new, as people already on here knew about these changes, however i disagree about the 20mb being upgraded to 50mb as financially it is going to be an unwise move...just imagine the fastest broadband available and how many people would like these speeds...so dont get ure hopes up buddy...but unless they offer 2.5mb upload speeds i cant see many people signing up...but what do i know

They will be like flies round a honey pot, Virgin will be hard pressed to keep up with demand for 50mb, because people will want to be the first with the new service and to be able to brag about it.

Customers will willingly pay £50/£60 or more for the privilege of being able to say "I have got 50mb" to their friends.

Considering the 50Mbit business BB is now already confirmed to be 50/2 and business products have -higher- upload speeds than residential then its blatantly obvious the upload is 1.5Mbit.

So premium product, 50Mbit downstream, 1.5mbit upstream and STM on top :)

XL by £1.50 plus bundles by £1 - So £2.50 if you have a bundle such as 3 for £30 with XL TV on top.

e-Billing discount is also increasing from 50p to £1

New prices come into effect on June 1st 2008
