No Access To FTP
Since my modem was changed by VM I have not been able to perform certain options using FTP, for example, cannot delete, move, remove or add, so basically everything.
I've contacted VM support about this twice, both times that have passed it on to another department who will be calling be back in a couple of days, (4weeks still waiting). My personal thought that the fault is I'm not being seen as a VM customer. For instance visiting http://www.virginmedia.com/help/chec...stomerselfcare tells me "If you are seeing this page, it probably means you're not on your home broadband connection, and we need you to tell us where you get your Virgin Media services." Now that to me shows me that VM think I'm not on their network hence FTP access is limited, but I am!! OK I'm wireless so VM support said maybe I'm using someone else's network but I've plugged my laptop straight into the modem to prove it, same problem. They checked to see if I had been allocated an IP address that was new and hadn't been added to their allowed network list, but it had. They checked the MAC address is correct and it was. They made me try both Vista and XP machines, same problem. They suggested I tried different FTP programs??, still the same. I keep saying this must be because I'm not recognised as being on their network, but they don't have an answer. Any ideas? |

Re: No Access To FTP
Click on the 'connection' link at the top of the page, it should tell you something like 'You appear to be on a Virgin Media Connection' & info about your connection, e.g.
cpc3-grim1-0-0-cust***.nott.cable.ntl.com - paste that in here, as I have, *** out your customer ID, though. |
Re: No Access To FTP
Well sure enough I appear to be on a VM connection.

The message from the VM website is a red herring resulting from the merging of the Telewest (Blueyonder) & NTL systems. I have to say I'm puzzled why a modem change would affect FTP access, though, there isn't anything you or VM can change in the modem config. Do you get any messages from the FTP client when you try to STOR, etc ? |

All operations result in 550:Permission Denied

- have you tried with any other site? |
Re: No Access To FTP
Yes because without the username or password it won't let me view the folder tree.
Also I forgot to mention this is the webspace supplied by VM that I'm trying to access. |

Re: No Access To FTP
I'm at the limit of my knowledge/ experience, I'm afraid, there are a number of differences in the transaction dialogues we have posted, but which are indicative of a potential problem, or just differences between the clients used, I'm not sure?
I use the FireFTP extension in FireFox, if that is any help - otherwise I am as confused as you are, sorry. |
Re: No Access To FTP
This FTP problem with virgins server has been going on for months now,i've lost count on how many times i have called them about this.

Re: No Access To FTP
Thanks for that link.
This has been happening since Feb, don't seem to be working that hard, all the techs don't seem to to know about it. |
