Data constantly travelling between router and PC?
Hi again,
Just wanted to know why my router is constantly sending data to the PC on the wired side? The little screens in the bottom right are never off, I know for a fact it is the router because the DS/US lights on the modem are not flashing constantly. Is this normal or am i being paranoid. |
Re: Data constantly travelling between router and PC?
Something network related trying to get out perhaps?
Does running a netstat command reveal anything odd? |
Re: Data constantly travelling between router and PC?
There are loads of networky signals flying about between hardware. Probably just handshake signals. Also various bits of your software such as windows and AV will be checking for updates.

Re: Data constantly travelling between router and PC?
Net stat shows alot of TIME_WAIT connections to the router, and one "established" connection aswell, and "netbios-ssn" TIME_WAIT.
EDIT: I got network cable unplugged, and then it reconnected instantly, and the lil screens have gone blank and flashing intermittently as normal. |
Re: Data constantly travelling between router and PC?
Axegrinder. the netbios ports are closed by virgin media now as standard because of the amount of people who do not set administrator passwords when they buy a pc.
What was the established connection ? Where was it going and what port was it going out on ? Google for a program called Icesword and have a look at what is going on in your pc and for possible hidden programs that could be hiding (These could be viruses or trojans that are Kernel Hooking) that are trying to access the internet.
