Internet problems with router/computer
 

Hi all, I have two problems right now with my internet connection...

Started two days ago, my desktop cannot get internet when I plug the ethernet cable into my wireless router (The WRTP54G Linksys), but when I connect my ethernet into my modem, the internet works. I spoke to linksys live chat reps who gave me a list of this and that to do (did 3 seperate lists of stuff). I thought a fresh reformat would help, but to no avail, then another problem came up now.. In my network connections folder, only the 1394 adapter connection shows, and not the LAN connection (I'm on the desktop right now directly connected to the modem by the way)

I read another thread on here about someone having the same latter problem as me, it is on in my bios and the Nforce networking drivers are shown in device manager so I do not think that is the problem.

So to recap, LAN connection not showing in network connections, and the issue of not getting internet when connected through my wireless router.
Note that the wireless works fine and my cousin's laptop picks it up, it seems as if the router did not assign my desktop an IP, I also tried to manually configure in the IP and DNS and such, it would go to "connected" but with no packets on the recieving side.

Any thoughts? Ideas? This is driving me insane...

Whats listed in device manager under network adapters? Anything with exclamation marks beside it?

1394 Net Adapter and Nvidia Nforce Networking Controller. No yellow exclamation marks or question marks.

Then i would say the drivers for you network adaptor are not loaded you should have something else in network connections with the name of your lan device?:)

I may be mis-reading the original post, but if the internet works when the ethernet cable is plugged straight into the cable modem(bypasing the router), then that proves that the netwrok card is working and drivers are loaded. No idea why it's not showing in network connections though.

Tnx, you say you cousin can pick up the wireless signal on your router, and connect surf the net etc. I'd say it's something on your PC blocking DHCP requests/resposes. Do you have any firewalls set up on your PC, it's worth switching them off and trying again, maybe even worth booting to "safe mode with networking" just to make sure no element of your firewall is loaded.

sorry i misread it:D, the way i understood it he could not connect through his wireless router, i took that as wireless not wired my fault:dunce:

Jon T, thhat post on the thread you linked solved my problem with not seeing the LAN icon, I indeed have a 650I motherboard and so that problem's fixed..

Now my other problem is still happening though, I tried manually setting IP and DNS values, won't work. Going to try my neighbor's router and see what happens. Has there been any problems similar to this in the past on this forum or other tech forums you guys frequent? I searched on this but did not find a problem like mine.

I'd go along with the 'firewall issue' suggestion. What are you running?

I use sygate firewall. I was looking at some other threads and they mention that the 8.43 nforce package (which i installed) also installs the nvidia firewall, which causes tons of problems, i went to task manager and ended the NVappfilter.dll process (which is the firewall) and my internet worked through the wireless router for about a minute, then it went back to limited connectivity. I uninstalled the firewall and its still happening now. :\

Alright so I tried connecting it into a WRT54G V6 and a BEFW11S4 V4 router, they both say connected for the LAN connection but do I do not receive any packets. Both of the Ipconfig /all command gives me these values back, which is also what I have when I'm directly connected to the modem. I have no firewall other then windows firewall running at the moment. What can be the problem?
