Power off both the ADSL modem and the router. Connect the router to the ADSL modem. Then, power on the ADSL modem, and wait for about 2 minutes to make sure it is connected. Next, power on the WRT54G. This should then work. |

A cable router routes ethernet connections, as long as the DSL modem is ethernet based and has the NAT turned off within the modem then it should work fine... Or if the modem has NAT turned on then just a simple hub/switch is required and not the router Sounds like both units are trying to NAT at the same time...See if you can turn it off on the modem and rely on the rotuer to do the work... If the other device is a router sticking it in bridge mode (if possible) would be best, if you really cannot set it into bridge/modem only mode Putting the wrt54GL in DMZ may be sufficent although i'm unsure whether it would be the same a double natting. In theory the first router should forward everything that hits it to the 2nd but bridge mode is better because it allows the wrt54GL to have the external IP directly. |
